Resort promotes Bottega Veneta Outlet Sea Turtle Rescue Program

BRIDGEPORT -- An owner of a Chinese restaurant was killed around midnight Saturday after he was gunned down on Wood Avenue by two men, police said.

The victim -- Milin Zhao, 30 -- was walking home with his wife after closing their Wood Avenue Chinese restaurant, New Hong Kong. Their Bottega Veneta Outlet apartment is located next door to their business.

According to police, Zhao and his wife were confronted by two males who attempted to pull a bag from the male victim's hand.

Zhao resisted and was shot one time in his upper torso, police said.

The suspects then fled in an unknown direction. The victim's wife was unharmed during the attack. Zhao was brought to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mui Thu, who has owned Pho Saigon, a nearby Vietnamese restaurant, for 10 years, said Zhao was a nice, quiet man.

Thu has never been robbed, which she attributed to closing her restaurant at 9 p.m bottega veneta Totes.

Maria Martinez, an Iranistan Avenue resident, said Zhao kept his restaurant open too late at night for their neighborhood, which has had four shootings in the last two years.

She remembered seeing Zhao hanging out with his young son and called him a "tremendous father." "When you see the father, you see the boy."

Scott Gutierrez, a tattoo artist who works at Fresh Cuts, a barber shop on the same block as Zhao's restaurant, said he ordered food from Zhao. "It's a terrible loss," he said.

Mikhail Salmon, who lives on Wood Avenue, said he saw police tape blocking off the area Saturday morning when returned home from a party. He said Zhao was a good man.

"He has a son," he said. "It's sad; that's real Hermes Wallet crazy."

A worker, who wished to remain unnamed, confirmed that Zhao's father-in-law worked at Fortune Cookie, another Chinese restaurant on Wood Avenue, but he declined toment because he was too sad, she said. Neighbors said Zhao also worked in that restaurant from time to time.
