Historic Cowpens And The Mighty Moo adidas sale Festival

The small town of Cowpens, in the Upstate of South Carolina, delights visitors with its history, downtown shopping district, and an annual festival honoring navy veterans. The Cowpens National Battlefield is located 11 miles north of town. The battle Fitflops fought here on January 17, 1781 became the turning point of the Revolutionary War in the southern colonies. A group of colonial militia was able to outflank the British army in a double envelopment and inflict heavy casualties. Markers along a 3.8 mile Auto Loop Road explain aspects of the battle. Visitors may view a short film at the Visitor Center and see exhibits on the Revolutionary War.

The historic Cowpens Depot and Museum, located at 120 Palmetto Street, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The passenger and freight depot was built in the late 1800s for Southern Railway and was used until 1967. It was moved to its current location in 1982 following efforts to save the building from destruction. The museum’s displays center around WWII naval history and artifacts from crewmen of the USS Cowpens, a WWII aircraft carrier that served in the Pacific from 1943-45. Exhibits include photos, medals, clothing, and personal letters. The museum is open by appointment and during special events and holidays. Nearby Cowpens Veterans Memorial Park honors the area men and women who have served in the armed forces.

The Cowpens Mighty Moo Festival is an annual four day event that celebrates the town’s history and honors veterans and crewmembers of two navy vessels. The USS Cowpens CVL 25, nicknamed “the Mighty Moo,” was a WWII aircraft carrier. The USS Cowpens CG 63 is an Aegis guided missile cruiser. The festival is an annual reunion for many former crewmen and their families. The Mighty Moo Festival includes a parade, BBQ cook off, golf tournament, street dances, musical entertainment, and an arts and crafts market. The 35th annual Mighty Moo Festival is scheduled for June13-16, 2012 in downtown Cowpens Fitflop.
